EXPLORE EUROPE ~ 2 COUNTRIES IN 5 DAYS ~ GERMANY & AUSTRIA (DAY 1-3)
I went to Europe again in January 2013, for 5 days. I went to Germany and Austria. It was my second time to travel to Austria, but to a different city, this time I visited Salzburg. In Germany I visited a few places. My trip was my birthday gift to myself. I went with a friend.
Travel cost was fair enough. Though I paid for the air ticket more that what I have budgeted. When I first checked for the air fare, it was around Aed 1900 only, after a week it has gone up to Aed2300. Lesson learned: if you are sure and has finalized your holiday schedule, go book your tickets right away when you find the best air ticket price. Hotel cost was around Aed 700 for a room for 2. Food and other travel expenses I had prepared Aed2500, I also brought biscuits and canned foods, just in case.
First thing before you go, check the weather of your destinations, so you know the type of clothes you need to pack. If it is winter season, I would suggest that you prepare yourself to combat the cold weather. I had plenty of orange juice and ascorbic acid days before my trip. I made sure I have thermal clothes aside from the winter jackets. Also, don’t forget your beanies, gloves and neck scarves. This is highly recommended to people who are not used to cold places. My travel buddy got sick on the second day towards the rest of our trip.
Our first stop was Munich. We took the train from the airport going to our hotel. Our hotel was just a few steps from Munchen Central Train Station (München Hauptbahnhof). It was a good and quiet train ride, outside the window we could see snow falling, my first snow experience. The train was about 45 minutes if I remembered it right. We took S8 down to Central Station (DB), see below map (photo ctto) for reference:
Train station is big and has several lines, make sure you are on the right platform if you are going somewhere, if not sure, don’t hesitate to ask at the information for direction or ask the securities or police who are roaming around, they are friendly and helpful. But if you are adventurous like me, then go get lost and find your way on your own, that is more fun and a great way to discover the place, just my point of view.
On our first day, we arrived at the hotel around 11am, after we have checked-in, we rested for some time. Then off we went for lunch. We spent the afternoon sight-seeing by walk. It was raining and I love it.
Below are few of the photos I took of Munchen's old architectural structures from my phone:

We just walked around till we get tired.
On our second day, we went to Füssen in southwest Bavaria, travel time was 2hrs, then took the bus down to Hohenschwangau to see Hohenschwangau Castle or Schloss Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle, King Ludwig’s homes.
Note: before you do your sight-seeing activity, do check the time schedules of the bus going back to the train station from Hohenschwangau and check the train schedule going back to where you are staying, this is important so as not to miss your ride back to your hotel.
